> Recent server instability
Posted by NSF·KAH - 10-6-08 22:55 - 2 comments
Hey guys, thought I'd just mention that all the ups and downs with the server lately don't mean I'm trying to kill the forums off or anything tongue.gif

Just a case of rotten luck, everything from a very curious dog managing to rip the LAN cables out (several times over a few days) of their sockets to autumn storms and Subversion going haywire has occurred the last couple weeks.

Things will hopefully be better soon, though I will probably do some tidying and moving around of machines here in the immediate future which will lead to some short breaks too. Still waiting on news from my prospective new ISP on their construction plans...

Leb just told me his TS-server is going down today, probably permanently.

My backup will go up in a few hours when I get home, a fulltime replacement is in the works (with the same user database as before).

If you are deeply disturbed by this turn of events, we have a crisis hotline on +47 829-GIEF-CAKE.

Edit: backup server is now up. Connection info in the usual thread.

> Forum upgraded
Posted by NSF·KAH - 06-17-08 22:13 - 13 comments
As you can probably tell, the forum software has been upgraded.

This broke a couple of things, namely our custom skins and the gallery. I've reset everyone's skin choice to the new default skin for this version of the board, however you can still switch back if you want to.

I'll be working on porting the skins in the next few days, since they are pretty cool. The fate of the gallery is more uncertain, right now it refuses to even be configured. I'll play around with it on a working copy of the forum install to see what can be done...

Please report any breakage you find in this thread.

> Downtime for maintenance
Posted by NSF·KAH - 05-5-08 22:41 - 2 comments
Hey guys, it's time for another drydocking day.

On Tuesday 06.05.2008 (tomorrow/today depending on where you are) I will be performing some needed maintenance on my machines, including hopefully a forum software upgrade.

This will probably take place in the afternoon local time, but I won't set any precise timeframe. Network maintenance should only take about 10-20 minutes, during which time everything will be unavailable. After that, there'll be some erratic disruptions as I do various things.

I'm currently testing the forum upgrade process on a cloned install so the forum shouldn't be down for more than maybe an hour at most. We'll see what mr Murphy has to say about it in the morning, though wink.gif

Edit: looks like there will be some issues with skins. Trying to find a solution for upgrading our custom ones, it's possible I'll just upgrade first anyway and fix them afterwards.
The new default look in 2.3 is pretty cool, though, you can see it on the developer's own forums. Maybe we should leave the old skins behind and rebuild custom ones based on this? Feedback appreciated smile.gif

Edit 2: might postpone this some hours or until Wednesday cause of having to do some other things today.
